Our people
We have a phenomenal team with a huge range of expertise and lived experience. While our mission is to transform an industry, we can get there faster— and enjoy the journey— by creating a great place to work.
”Colorifix is more than I could have dreamed of back when Jim and I were first talking about it, and the main reason I think that way is because of the quality of the team we’ve built around us.”
- Orr, Founder and CEO
-
The why
The dyeing industry is one of the largest water consumers in the world, using over 5 trillion litres per year along with petrochemical dyes and a host of toxic and highly polluting chemicals.
-
The what
Colorifix was founded by scientists who apply engineering principles to biology. By harnessing the power of biology, we are finding natural solutions to solve man-made problems.
-
The how
The first step in the Colorifix process is to identify a pigment produced by a plant, animal, insect, or microbe. Via DNA sequen- cing, we pinpoint the genetic information that codes for the production of our chosen colour. We then translate that message into our engineered microorganism, which we use to grow, transfer, and fix colour onto textiles.

Inspired by nature
Nature is a teacher when it comes to sustainability. By following its own circular model, we are able to access nature‘s colours for the global dyeing industry without ever harming a living organism or taking from the world around us.
We promise to maintain this commitment to a holistic solution in every decision we make— from our technology and business model, to how we care for our employees and communicate with the world around us.
About Colorifix Limited
Colorifix is a biotechnology company that has developed the first entirely biological process to produce, deposit and fix pigments onto textiles. Inspired by the way colours are produced in nature and engineered through synthetic biology, our process entirely cuts out the use of harsh chemicals and leads to huge reductions in water and energy consumption.
We provide a plug-in solution for existing dye houses and mills around the world. The technology can be used with standard industry machines and works on a broad range of fabrics from natural to synthetics, allowing us to be cost-competitive and highly scalable.
